It's time again, one of those unpredictable days when I reach a crossroad of paths once more. Its wonderful appreciating the preparation of yester-days, how what once made out of necessity but a chore, is now of great help to myself. deja vu, I remember thinking so before. Streamlining is of great help, and proves real efficient, used to do it during S1, works for me again now.
Something else from today: CWH mentioned that he reads our blogs, doesn't come as a surprise considering how he is holding an active web presence. The fact he does means he also has time to come check out on you. You gotta admit, he's quite humorous. But his humour isn't degenerating the pace of class. Truth be told, he somehow can keep the point niners interested in class with all the funny antics, that's one thing. Secondly, he can keep the class real condusive, reason being everyone is really getting down to doing their classwork and paying attention thanks to him. Partly because of the importance of work. And simply because they want to watch on at his eccentric teaching methods which blasts the place up in laughter when all is quiet. I won't be surprised if he is doing all these on purpose, cos point nine has never ever been that quiet and noisy, and he has been quite successful at teaching, possibly better than KKoh in certain aspects. Kudos to CWH, he's one different teacher, and in a good sense too!
Lastly, UE is just forming up again. Having seen about 3 generations of existence, but mostly not under one roof, vaporware and more talk. The new direction however does seem to be rather, promising. We shall see. Meanwhile, I'll do my part and get something up.

Just watched the 1993 demo of NeXTSTEP, incredible how something so modern was conceived at a time when Win95 was never heard of and DOS reigned. Astonishing, the remarkable similarities it has with Darwin based OS X. The dock bar, widgets, GUI, had all been built back then 12 years ago, and Windows Longhorn is now just coming around to perfect that by 2007, which will be 14 years since someone beat them to it. It sure takes a while for technology to transverse the ranks into mainstream. Steve Jobs was truly a visionary ahead of his time, hell to Bill Gates. But that is not to say that I'm into his personality cult, I'm highly aware Apple is still rather sly and dishonest in promoting their products. Don't be tricked. So is Dell.
FYI: Steve Jobs left Apple in 1985 to form NeXT, which now serves as the foundation of OS X, before returning to retake the helms in 1997 after spiralling losses at Apple in between forced them to go back to their founder.

Just came back from the Singapore Youth & Media Conference. Basically was a congregation of people in the media line (but not leaders), the opening forum was just rhetoric of what has been discuessed in recent months, so it was pretty pointless. Not much to say about the front part of the day, but the Ngee Ann people I encountered in the workshops were quite a spirited and enthusiastic lot.
Now, the closing forum was the catalyst to me blogging this post. There were couple of veterans of the local media scene taking the stage, one guy was the MTV regional head who also directed chicken rice war. Demoed couple of funky public service videos produced by MTV, sure had a great sense of humor as well. The discussion then really begun, issues were about a new emerging youth demography that like many other previous generation, are pushing for change. But with the advent and aid of technology, this generation is able to put change forward at a quicker pace no other has done at before. They said, we have the opinions, but ranting on blogs, posting to forums is simply not enough. The challenge is putting it into action. The atmosphere then was fuzzy and dreamy, as though on the starting line. Especially, with talk about the local media industry, it was nice knowing as if then that people around in that hall were all working towards this goal. Anyway, you had to be there to feel it, its somewhat the same geeky atmosphere like MacWorld. Or it all might have been just my own wishful thinking. But do I care, it must come from the heart, be true to yourself, said they. I intend so.

The Challenge
Let others lead small lives,
but not you.
Let others argue over small things,
but not you.
Let others cry over small hurts,
but not you.
Let others leave their future
in someone else's hands,
but not you.

Stefanie

This episode has been a great lesson on espionage, how the hostilities between 2 groups arises not from the work of the generals, but some selfish individuals harboring evil plans. I remember seeing this happening similarly in the movie, Red October. As for the other parts of the camp, I must say those people insisting on sleeping on the airbeds are shortchanging themselves as the grass is so much nicer, even better is the starry night-sky, pity I didn't bring my sleeping bag. I heard Bose's account of the marauders stumbling across Justin, Fengze, Daniel sleeping outside their tents, what a tale it was cos those 3 gave the marauders a good fright when Daniel kept moving in his sleep, which made them freeze there for 5 minutes in the dark thinking that the host was awake and looking right at them. The raid events sure make a good tale in the forseeable future.

ben's config is now running fine but it seems laggy at times. I could jolly well turn this place into a tech blog, which most people wouldn't understand anyways. Currently downloading SLP (Suse Linux Professional) 9.2, their ftp's flooded, its a 3.3GB download, that's what broadband is for.
Tomorrow's the LDP/OEP, I don't give a shit about it. Kal n Co' are getting real paranoid about it, seems like Liew snubbed their invitation to join their tent; which by all regards could have been a good and bad choice. Good in that, people are snubbing the Kal gang, but bad in that there are no other gangs which have empty places available, so you did probably end up with Brandon or Fengze. It seems like within the span of this week, various groups of independant closely knitted groups have evolved upon agreements for tent sharing. There's the MunSongChiang gang and Jason Liu supporters ones, the latter is likely a more spirited and happier team, which I have a good mind to try joining but likely can't get a cut. I'm still going about my rounds on making people pissed by backing out of their pre-self-conceived notions that I'll be in their league. That I have no qualms about doing so since I do not share their aspirations but no one is backing me up (Sorry Jovin, didn't bring enuff money to get you your copy). Nuff' said, time to charge batteries up.
Update: it has occured to me that future posts cld be done in chinese to mock some morons who cant read it. to add salt to injury, i will do it in traditional chinese, which i pretty much learnt from reading subtitles of taiwanese shows and it looks much better too =)

tribe.wise.heart
That will be our moniker for the 4 days in Haiwan, Kluang starting this Monday. It looks set to be a replica of the GEP EC of 2 years ago, likely of the same pace. One wonders who will come up with the flag for this tribe, art student Justin in his free-time, or the venerable Kaleni who likely will just buy a Survivor flag off ebay. I guess everyone's gonna bring their EC shirts (its of a nicer design than this stoopid LDP one), and it comes with the GEP insignia. We might as well boldly imprint the GEP logo onto our flag since everyone in this tribe is jeep for some discriminatory reasons on the administration's part.
One side note: Rendevous with ben and jeffbag yesterday, skeeted off to SLS to buy parts for ben's new comp. Well, his card apparently ran out of juice and had to withdraw more money. To which he asked the 5 people in the ATM queue whether he could jump-queue in front of them (he was wearing the tie on). The config totals around $2k and is $500 cheaper than BZ's slightly underpowered but also similar config which we did last month. Difference is mainly the gfx card, BZ one's a cheapo 9k6pro for $200, which isn't very modern for a year 2003 card. ben got a 6600GT after being convinced someday he will regret it like BZ, its $400, and can do HL2 in all its glory. There's also the new Video Processor on it, which will do HDTV decoding just fine, that solely is done by CPUs nowadays (you need a P4 3.2 to decently handle 1080i).
The Antec Sonata truely earns its reputation as the world's quietest case, provided you connect the casing temperature monitor wire (as we learnt from BZ's case). ben's floppy and HDD are still dud for the time, all thanks to that bleddy Bliss guy who insisted we got a SATA (which is crap to install and costs more). Never AGAIN am I going to walk into that bleddy ABNN shop and be cajoled into buying their shit!!! (pun intended) Gonna go down and fix it today, rushing to SLS again later. Its Alex's early bday partee today, partly to make up for the sad fact that his actual bday is on Tuesday when we are in camp, we shall buy him a local English copy of H+L+2 at $50+ (David's getting me Thai ones for $20 nia).

wasting.passing of days
How many times as we sat in front of the computer surfing nothing but worthless sites and feeling guilty about the time you have wasted idling about. I'm not sure if this is what I'm feeling now, cos there's nothing eating at me right now. I know there's work, but I can't seem to remember any at all to bother me in the first place. To many, its a blessing to be able to be oblivious of all that piling crap, but I'll likely get screwed one of these days for it. Pay it forward. How 'bout doing work in advance for a change? Used to do that in Sec1, not anymore, work prediction ain't my forte.
Just a few days ago at Thomson Plaza, I got a good look at the Ixus40, my Ixus400 being its predecessor, is about twice thick as the 40. Its hard to play catchup with technology. I got the Ixus400 about 1.5 years ago, and its still icy cool in its celabrite alloy scratch-resistant case, which I'm sure the 40 would also possess. But the new big LCD and thinner form factor, 30% cheaper price, its real alluring.

faith.statis
Looks like we will be packing off to Kluang next Monday for the OEP. Shocking how close the date is. Considering the amount of trouble that occured at the last GEP EC at gunung.Panti, it will be far worse this time. Though we can expect a good skit with big laughs from Tribe Wise. Have a gutt feeling my camera battery (with spares) won't last throughout the duration and I'm likely to kick myself for missing some good shots. Such events gurantee at least 3 shots which will be good enough to post on the content-starved galleria.
Justin has just offered me a Pentium 1 for $10, way overpriced considering I got a Celeron 433 (Mendencino core) for $10 as well. Of which, the latter was legendary for its on-die cache, whereas the Pentium, however historic, is far too common-place. The ones that are gold-plated on the face like the P-Pro are however collectors' items. Forgot to retrieve the P-Pro which I got on Karan's behalf in that camcorder bag I passed to LCE this morning. So much about improving execution efficiency when I have memory lapses.
Before I forget, I should get Linux running on my old box sometime soon, servers and all. The current .Reach host hasn't proven to be very reliable, revival of the place still seems bleak due to this.

regroup.repurpose
Its past noon now, the sky is still dark and overcast, so much for January. But this weather won't keep up for long, June will be searing hell (which is bad). Finally finished the consolidation of my four main sites onto the front page, which have since come a long way. Galleria seems to be rather problematic with error prompts on the new server. Tried a couple other scripts, but never gotten down to using those, they just lack the speed and ease of customability as SG. Flow of visitors seem to be near the area of non-existence. I still go by the belief that content is king, but what content I have to offer doesn't seem to appeal to anyone anyway. The next few weeks would be a good time to put some thought into this [shrug].

firstcut.starting_point
Starting a blog based on the 7th iteration of my identity, thus termed IDentity7. I have other ones but they do not have the distinctive IDentity prefix that you can identify them easily by (which I prefer you don't and you likely won't).
These are times of strange tidings, various identities make better work, reconnaissance. Donning (pants of) power, literally, a good spark to the new year. But the scars of the past year (2004) linger on: most obviously the Tsunami disaster. It is unfortunate that we lived through the 4th year of the 21st century, both numbers which I consider unlucky for personal reasons. If the 5th reckoning is to be anything, it is a shadow of what that has come to pass as a reminder.
Reminder to what? I have no idea. But it just only seemed yesterday when the same instinctive skepticism and alertness struck me once again, deja vu. I can sense the wrath of the thing which I might have indirectly incurred. Having a tight eye to keep abreast on happenings around; EDMW & OGK, two entirely different worlds but enough to keep me informed. Meanwhile, .Reach still seems to be in a state of abandonment, chances of revival still remain but are slim.
Looks like the budding MPac is shaping up, but I have doubts as to whether programmes can be carried out in a logical logistic fashion. This essentially means ailing development schedules. Rounded up the S1 Discovery CP '05 video at 2AM last night, definitely not up to standard, but good enough for barely half a day's cutting. With the CCA orientation for S1 today, I'm sure we have hit a bad note in PR for the whole body present with that laggy video playback implementation. Six people that came forward to us, looked through their details, half with previous experience, reckon numbers will be down to at least 2. Things are bleak as LCE doesn't seem to have any rationally planned-out list of projects. The numbers are too many to be completed at out current capacity, which is still a paltry force even with the recruitment drive. Should cancellations occur, the pace will surely slow down, things won't get done. Ain't hoping for too much but seems like that will have to make do as I have no better plan to offer either.
So long, apologies for the lingo, but materializing writing just doesn't come easy for me , thus attempting to alter that incompetency by posting more.
